New staging area for Hoover Invitational

The City of Columbus Parks and Recreation Department has approved a new staging area for the Hoover Invitational.

First, the old staging area was a bit crowded and only allowed for 3 docks:

The new staging area is the large unused grassy area to
the right in the below photo.  It is larger than the old
staging area (above) and will accommodate 4 docks.

The right-most area of the above photo is shown below:

For those attending Westerville Crew's 2010 fall regatta,
this large grassy area was used for staging and received
fantastic reviews from coaches and athletes. The shoreline opening, shown above in the aerial view, has subsequently been cleared of all debris and will accommodate 4 docks.

The new staging area is 4-5 times larger than the former and adjacent to the trailer parking area.

Faster Results
Using "wireless bridge" technology, the finish line will be connected to our "regatta central" (the shelter in the spectator area) as well as to the Internet.  Results will be entered into the Regatta Workbench timing program at the finish line and transmitted to this website for immediate viewing over a smart phone or browser, as well as transmitted wirelessly to our regatta central for printing. For the propellar heads, we are using a long range (5km) wireless distribution system that are in turn connected to wireless router in the spectator area.

HooverInvite Twitter Account
A new Twitter account has been created specifically for the Hoover Invitational. The account (HooverInvite) will be used to Tweet the preliminary results of each race. Our hope is to post immediately to Twitter the preliminary results of each race.  These results will be quickly disseminated to hundreds of subscribers through their cell phones, usually within seconds.  Twitter has a 140 character limit, and so the results of each race will be abbreviated:
Ev2 (1) LPJ 7:16.87 (2) AAP 7:23.05 (3) CJRC 7:28.60 (4) NT 7:32.24 (5) CHS 7:41.84 (6) LA 7:42.15 (7) SLRC 7:48.09 (8) SUA 7:52.56

Time-Warner's Roadrunner Division approved connecting The Hoover Invitational to the Columbus Roadrunner network for the duration of the regatta.  This will provide the regatta staff connectivity to this site and RegattaCentral.
